Sax on the Beach

The Vibe

For most of its life thus far since the 1840's, the saxophone was something of a niche instrument. Its prominence today means that we all know what a sax looks & sounds like. But probably the most immediate association we have with the saxophone is a jazz ensemble, a busker in New Orleans, or perhaps Lisa Simpson & 'Bleeding Gums' Murphy.

This set is all about celebrating the sax in a way that we hope will expand your realm of associations. We will hear the saxophone in its soprano, alto, tenor, & baritone forms. We will hear it used for atmosphere, light flourishes, playful punctuations, propelling rhythms, bold climaxes, disorientation & more.

Have an open ear, stay open to associations and sounds that may be new. Things may even get messy, but you'll be sure to have a story to tell about that night of sax on the beach.
