To relish the apex of summer, let’s revel in the sounds of the sweltering heat. We love the memories that come with the salty taste of our sweat, the smell from a cool ocean breeze, the crunch of sand in our teeth.
This set is meant to take you on a journey: We begin with a mirage-filled desert sojourn. Then, heat exhaustion sets in just as we achieve salvation at a surf rock beach party. The party takes us into the humid tropics where we find another brand of hotness - the body-packed hypnotic gyrations of an ebbing rave. Then, our appetites whetted from sensual dance, the party simmers down into a sensual soul-funk rubdown.
The sounds of the heatwave are varied. The electric guitar is a strong driver with its searing high pitches in surf rock, frazzling fuzz in psych, and snakey sensuousness from the East. But synthesizers play a prominent role too, swelling up ground heat for atmosphere and stabbing out steamy dance anthems. And lest we forget the sexy soulful vocals of vixens vying with carnal cravings for the human touch.
