Reflections & Meditations
The Vibe
To honor Yom Kippur, the annual Jewish Day of Atonement, we unplug from all things work, tech, and finance, and deprive ourselves of food and drink. Doing so facilitates the experience of reflecting and meditating on who we are, how we have changed in the past year, and what we want the story of our next year to be.
We bring that spirit to this set and invite you to explore what it means for you to meditate and reflect. This was not an easy program to devise. Our Music Nights are usually so lively and festive, whereas our first associations with meditative music were of drones, repetitive chanting, and longform ragas.
So for your delight and introspection the program has been prepared with some artistic license. We first take soulful, jazzy excursions that bring the cosmos to mind. Then, we reflect through experiments in looping sounds - for what is a reflection if not a loop between image and surface? The loops intensify in complexity, ultimately leading to heavier sounds evoking existentialism. Finally, we cleanse with a live meditation through a soulful piano improv.
